This month, ITW serves up a full evening of theatre with five one-act plays. Get your tickets, take your seats, and buckle up as you travel the globe on this one-night fun flight!
Upon take off we head west to L.A. with Frederick Stropel's Package Deal, directed by Kevin Ryan. This dark comedy invites us to sit in on lunch and the contract negotiations of Starla Simmons. An out-of-touch casting agent, an out-of-work actor and an out-of-reach waiter make this luncheon delicious!
After lunch we fly across the Pacific, back in time and on to ancient Rome, where our paths cross with Aesop's Fable, Androcles and the Lion, directed by Lee Fierro. Although we just left lunch, it would seem that another meal is on the way. As we meet up with Androcles, his wife Megaera and the Lion in this sweet tale of compassion, it's unclear as to who really is the King of the Forest. One thing is for sure, this wonderful fable tastes like more.
A short trip north over the Alps lands us in Germany, smack dab in the middle of a very timeless situation. Directed by Leslie J Stark, Murphy Guyer's Loyalties looks in on two couples, four opinions and polar opposite views fueling a spirited after-dinner post-election conversation. Keep your seat belt buckled!
After refueling at intermission, we jet off to beautiful Barcelona where Serafin and Joaquin Alverez Quintero's A Sunny Morning, directed by Lee Fierro, introduces us to a most unusual pair. She with her birds and he with his newspaper, this aging duo decide to share a bench, not to mention tales of love, loss and laughter all of which are overshadowed by a most unexpected secret. Like the birds in the park, off we go!
It's across the Atlantic and back home as we put down on the Vineyard, where DM Bocaz-Larson's Seeing Beyond with Maya Fantasma, directed by Kevin Ryan, seems to be all but impossible. This washed-up spiritual medium makes a connection that she wishes she hadn't. While Tom hopes to connect with his sister on the other side, the real action is taking place right at home. For the safety of those around you, remain seated and keep your seat belts buckled. Spiritual Turbulance!!!!
The One Act Festival cast members include Julie Benoit, Stephanie Burke, Lee Fierro, Michael Gilman, Bibi Horowitz, Dan Larkosh, Don Lyons, Jill Macy, Joyce Maxner, Katharine Pilcher, Kevin Ryan, Mark Shelton, Abigail Southard, Leslie J Stark and Gerry Yukevich. |
